The A-Z Challenge - People, Places & Things Jamaican

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

So last week, I hit on what I can do for the A-Z Challenge

I was getting a little panicky over the fact that I couldn’t think of anything to write about, but eventually, I settled on people, places and things Jamaican.  I figure that since I write so much, or I used to, the things I come up with will come in useful where my setting is concerned.

I actually started and had got to the B’s (not far I know) when I made a silly mistake and saved over the few bits of information I’d already collected. Not to worry though,  I still remember what little I had written down.

It’s crazy to take on the A-Z, but I never could resist a challenge.

Have you signed up yet and worked out a strategy for getting around to all the participating bloggers?

If you have, do share.

  1. As you can probably tell, I've been messing with my template. Please bear with me while I get things sorted out.

  3. I was going to say, you've changed your template. I like it! Love the script font. And can't wait to read more about Jamaica.

    1. Hi, Clarissa,
I've had the devil of a time uninstalling the comment system and getting Blogger's to work. Had to revert to something simpler. I like the social media thingies on the bottom too, though they kinda shout at you. :)

  4. Dang. This place looks really nice. I love the rotating square featuring your books. Yowsa...my website looks so boring.

    1. I replied to this via email, but it would have been supercool if the comment showed up here too. :(

  5. Love the postcard in your header!!!

I'm not participating - going to be on blog break toward the end. I'm looking forward to reading all your posts, though :)

  6. You're very brave to mess with your template. I'm very afraid to do that. I'm looking forward to learning more things Jamaican. One of the many things I love about blogging is how I've connected with people in different parts of the world.

    1. Thanks for dropping in, Susan. I've learned just how much can go wrong with a blog through trial and error. I guess I was due for a change anyway.

  7. Hey Joy,
The A to Z blogging challenge sounds like fun, provided we aren't required to visit ALL the blogs. I just clicked over there to see the details since I'm thinking about joining, and there are 1,159 people signed up. :)

Your theme of Jamaica will be fun to read about next month, since I always like the pics you post from there.

    1. Tina, the number of people to visit is kinda daunting, but I guess people manage the Challenge the best way they can.

  8. Well, it might not be deliberate but I think the blog looks great :-)
I still haven't settled on a theme for the challenge, I suppose I should get a move on! As for visiting others, I'm going to start with the blog listed after mine and visit as many as I can, then carry on where I left off the next day. I know a whole bunch of new blogs are going to end up in my regular reads, but who needs sleep? :-)

  9. Hey, Sarah,
You know, inspiration hits you when you're not even looking for it. I found the cool header above yesterday afternoon and made it my own. :) Thanks for the compliment!

Yeah, what I like about these challenges is finding new people to connect with. I'm anal, so I started from the top - even knowing that I can't possibly make it to everybody before the end of this month.

Hope you come up with something soon.

  10. It will be good to have you with us on the April journey. Your theme sounds like a good one since they always say to "write what you know". I'll link to this post in the Sunday Summary at the A to Z Blog.

  11. What a great theme to write on! I'm so excited to see your posts and learn more about everything Jamaican! I really hope I can visit there one day :)

  12. I'm glad you have a theme.

I haven't planned my posts or how I'm going to visit everyone. It's my first time doing A-Z, but I'm determined to do it. :)

  14. Oh, right...visiting all the blogs. Guess it might be a good idea to have an actual plan for that. Heh. I'll get right on that.

I'm taking a scattershot approach and going where the letters take me--unless, of course, I come up with a satisfactory theme in the next few days. I think your approach is probably somewhat saner. At any rate, I'm very interested in reading your posts and learning more about Jamaica!

    1. For me, it helps if I know I'm writing around a central theme. Glad to have you along for the Jamaican journey. I'll be sure to check out what you have going on in April.

You have such a cool place here... and I love your header!
The Jamaican-themed posts sound great - very informative for other bloggers.
This is my 2nd A-Z challenge - last year I had such a blast!
Good luck & see you around during the challenge!

    1. Hi, Michelle,
Thanks for your kind words. I like messing about with my wallpaper and such, so this renovation is the very recent. Glad to have you along. Looking forward to the Challenge too.

  17. OK j.l. TELL ME: IS IT MANDATORY TO VISIT THE SITES. I could not find info. about visiting other sites on their website about the challenge. I'm debating if im going to go for it, do you need a theme or you can just write about anything that begins with that letter. is the video mandatory also. lol. I know you are not a moderator but you seem to have a better understanding then i grabbed while at the site page. I apologize.

    1. No problem at all, Sidne. It's a fun challenge. You can post on just about anything you choose to for the month. I'm only going with a theme 'cause I don't want to run dry mid-month.

You can try to get around to as many sites as you can on the list during the month. Video definitely not mandatory, but having fun is. :D Hope you jump in!
