#BookReview A Delicate Affair … Great Start to the Decades Collection

Golden and Leonie are two strong characters whose story kept me engaged from start to finish. I didn’t see how their love would survive, given the divide between them, but Ms. Evans provided a satisfactory ending in A Delicate Affair.

The atmosphere, backdrop, and music steeped me in the period covered. Careful attention to detail gave the story an authentic feel. The push and pull between the two lovers made me emotional at times, so too the reality of what black people faced in the 1900s.

Good storytelling, memorable characters, and insight into life ‘way back when’ make A Delicate Affair an entertaining read.

Taffy - Intriguing Historical Fiction

Taffy is the first historical novel I've read in a while and the experience was outstanding. The writer's language is lyrical, which made me savor the telling of the tale. Taffy's story takes place in a rich and vibrant world I didn't want to emerge from whenever I picked up my Kindle.

The book's protagonist, Taffy, is a young woman who has had many bad experiences thrown at her, including marriage to a lecherous older man.  Her losses are many, but her strength is undiminished as she learns how to tough things out.

Her return to her hometown and subsequent reunion with the man she intended to marry unleashes a host of plot twists that makes Taffy an absorbing read. The eternal struggle of good versus evil challenges Taffy, who's gifted with second sight, and puts her at risk.

The characters are well-drawn and colourful, the setting realistic, and the storyline filled with shocking twists. After travelling with Taffy and Roam to the end of their romance, I couldn't help hoping Ms. Harrison will continue their story. If you like sweeping tales that take you to a different time in history with realism and heart, then Taffy is a must read.

Who's Kiya? - Hope of the Pharaoh

Being fascinated with all things Egyptian, I’m happy to host Katie Hamstead, who is going to tell us about the research that went into producing her book, Kiya: Hope of the Pharaoh.  

First up, thank you for allowing me to guest post here! I’m really excited about my debut NA Novel, Kiya: Hope of the Pharaoh. It’s is a Historical Romance released by Curiosity Quills. It’s the first book in the trilogy following Naomi’s (Kiya) life. It’s set during the late 18th Dynasty of Egypt, and begins when she is taken to be a wife of the infamous heretic pharaoh, Akhenaten.

This story took a lot of effort to write. With most of the characters being real historical figures, like Kiya herself, Akhenaten, Nefertiti, Horemheb, Ay, the three Queen daughters and Tutankhamen just to name a few, I needed to do a TON of reading and research on each and every one of them. I then had to figure out a timeline of events and line all their lives up. There was math to work out ages and corresponding dates.
