Finding the Golden Nugget - Best Marketing Mix

Monday, July 9, 2012

You know how sometimes you start a project and it’s slow going and then inspiration strikes and you can’t stop writing? I had one such experience yesterday. I wrote up a storm and got all of two chapters written. Not a lot of words by some standards, but for someone who writes in dribs and drabs these days, anything over a thousand words is a major achievement.

I’ve been doing other stuff too as you’ll know if you’ve been following the posts over the last couple of weeks. I took out a Facebook ad this past week, but pulled the plug on that after a few days. I think advertising there works better for me when I’m just after ‘likes’.

Promo Mix: Doing A Switch

Happy Independence Day to those of you who are from America! Here’s hoping you enjoy the holiday.

For a while now, I’ve been hemming and hawing about doing a Facebook ad. Still haven’t done it. What I have done is a Goodreads ad, which isn’t showing any returns as yet. If nothing happens this week, I’ll have to reword the blurb I’ve used. The way their system works is that you decide on the amount you want to spend up front and the ad runs until the clicks amount to your spending limit.  More on that later when I see what progress happens this week. The Facebook ad is still on the table.

On Networking & Social Media

DISCLAIMER: I am not and have never been any kind of social media expert. My observations are just that. Observations.

Last year, in September to be exact, I jumped on a bandwagon at Goodreads. It’s a group which allows Indie authors to meet and help each other with marketing books. I joined, knowing that I probably wouldn’t be able to do what is required, that is, spend more time I don’t have making the rounds on the internet.

Right now, I’m on Facebook, Linked in (finally) and Twitter. I joined IAN - there are a few of them and I can’t even find which one I joined :O - and the WoMen’s Literary CafĂ© and a few other networks that are supposed to be helping me market my books while I help others market theirs, but again, no dice. Too much going on, you know?
